Ed Levin (Santa Clara Co., CA) is administered by Wings of Rogallo (WOR), the local USHPA chapter. The 600ft launch sits on a west-facing ridge with three distinct launch slopes: the "North" slope faces W, the "West" slope faces SW, and the "South" slope faces S. Ideal/core wind is S through SW to W (roughly 180-270 deg), the directions the slopes directly face. Marginal/cross conditions extend to SE and NW (approx 135-315). WOR site guide gives ideal wind 0-15 mph, with practical light-base launch speeds around 8 mph for paragliders and 10 mph for hang gliders; 15 mph is the strong-end limit (calibrated windsocks fully inflate at 15 mph). Typical day: light S in the morning, strengthening and clocking to WNW by early afternoon. HAZARDS: the South launch can be in rotor in W wind; winds with a northerly component come up the access-road canyon and create sink/turbulence on the lee side of the ridge; rocks behind/below the North and West launches make them technical. The afternoon NW "bay breeze" (often onset ~11am in summer) can build past comfortable limits and turn flying unsafe, so morning-to-midday is generally best. Glide ratio off launch ~3.5:1. Rating/access: P3/H3, or P2/H2 with instructor, or P2/H2 with 3+ flights >=300ft AGL plus a WOR site intro by a P4/H4. Site requires WOR membership/permit (special-use permit from Santa Clara County). Note: the broader N/SE/NW octants in the orientation hint reflect the multiple slope aspects, but they are edge directions rather than the prime SW-W-S window.
