What we look for at Mission Ridge (Fremont- San Jose)

Wind direction

SW (225°) → WNW (290°)

The wind must blow from within this arc. Direction is the same for both wings.

Ideal speed

6–15 mph

Ceiling · Paragliding

≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23

Top of the range for paragliding (any rating) — switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.

Mission Peak, a Wings of Rogallo site above Fremont. Launch works in SW through W wind (the club lists NW-SW); south wind is cross and throws rotor behind the trees in the LZ. Light/variable mornings, thermic midday, steady WSW-W sea breeze by late afternoon is the best window. PG flies to about 20 mph (advanced only), HG to ~25. Heavy general-aviation and helicopter traffic with a 6000 ft ceiling near airways — fly airspace-aware. Long hike or keyholder drive-up, small Stanford Ave lot, 45-glider cap. P4 (or P3+extra) / H4 (or H3+extra) plus Wings of Rogallo + USHPA membership.
