Frequently asked

How is the flyable / not-flyable call made?

We blend five weather models with two official cross-checks, compare the wind against each launch’s own wind window, and score speed, gusts, thermals and winds aloft — separately for hang gliders and paragliders.

What do the colors and verdicts mean?

Green “Flyable” = good conditions within a normal rating. Amber “Flyable ⚠️” = flyable but demanding (caution — needs an advanced rating or there’s a real hazard). Red “Not flyable” = wrong wind direction, over the safe limit, rain, or after dark.

Why does it show different calls for HG and PG?

Hang gliders penetrate roughly 10 mph more wind than paragliders, so the same forecast can be a green day for one wing and a no-go for the other. Use the PG / HG toggle at the top to switch.

A site’s wind window or details look wrong. Can I fix it?

Yes — please do. Open the site’s page, sign in, and use “Send feedback about this site” to add or correct its wind window, hazards, or anything else. Local knowledge makes the calls better for everyone.

What is WonderWind Pro?

Current conditions are always free. Pro unlocks the hour-by-hour and full 7-day outlook for every site. Billing isn’t live yet, so Pro is a free preview right now.

How accurate is this — can I trust the call?

It’s decision support, not a decision. Forecasts read a nearby gridpoint that can differ from the actual launch, and TFRs/airspace can change fast. Always use your own eyes, talk to locals, check NOTAMs/TFRs, and fly within your rating.

📲 The WonderWind app is coming

Custom flyability alerts — pick your sites, your wing, and the conditions worth a text — are coming to the native iOS & Android app, along with offline conditions and favorites on the go.

WonderWind conditions are an automated estimate from public forecast models, not a go/no-go decision. Always check the sky, talk to locals, verify TFRs/airspace, and fly within your rating.
