Wind direction

SE (135°) → SW (225°)

The wind must blow from within this arc. Direction is the same for both wings.

Ideal speed

5–15 mph

Ceiling · Paragliding

≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23

Top of the range for paragliding (any rating). Switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.

Cliff Ridge, a south-facing thermal/XC site on the Blue Mountain plateau near Vernal (launch ~8,150 ft), host of the Dinosaur Open. Launches face SE-S-SW and it's fairly forgiving on direction, but midday brings very strong, punchy high-desert thermals - the reason P4 is recommended. Mornings are lighter and better for launching; evenings can glass off. High density altitude means faster wings and longer launch runs. BLM-managed, with a dirt road to the top.
