What we look for at Farleys (aka Grants East Ridge)

Wind direction

WSW (250°) → NW (310°)

The wind must blow from within this arc. Direction is the same for both wings.

Ideal speed

8–15 mph

Ceiling · Paragliding

≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23

Top of the range for paragliding (any rating). Switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.

High-desert ridge-soaring site (~7,600 ft) near Grants. Works best in a west-to-northwest wind, with SW and N as marginal edges; a separate narrow northerly window is also reportedly workable. Thin air means faster launch and landing speeds, and midday brings punchy thermals plus lee rotor if the wind backs to the east or south. No club guide publishes exact numbers here, so confirm conditions, access, and rating with local New Mexico pilots first.
