Coastal dune soaring site on Monterey Bay, maintained by Coastal Condors HG/PG Club since 1974. Faces W/Pacific. Per the club Site Guide: ideal wind direction 270-290 deg. Speeds (FROM the club guide): paragliders min 10 / max 18 mph; hang gliders min 12 / max 25 mph (so HG can fly stronger straight-in onshore than PG). The 18 mph PG max is used as maxSpeed; gust estimated ~22 mph (no explicit gust limit published). Marginal arc (225-315, i.e. SW/W/NW octants per orientation hint) is cross/edge of usable; closer to straight onshore W is best. Reliable thermic/seabreeze onshore flow as Monterey Bay funnels wind toward the Salinas Valley, so conditions typically build through the afternoon (best mid-to-late afternoon). Rating: H3/P3 minimum; mini-wings need M1 sign-off. Mandatory daily sign-in. Lake Court Dune is the highest launch (~110 ft) and is the preferred PG launch (steep dune walk-up); two approved relaunch dunes exist between Reservation Rd and Lake Court. Hazards/access: seasonal Western Snowy Plover nesting closures restrict dune access; dogs prohibited; soft-sand/dune-protection rules; as of April 2026 the HG setup area was temporarily closed/roped off for construction. Watch for overpowering/blown-out conditions when the seabreeze exceeds ~18 mph for PG.
