Ceiling · Paragliding

≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23

Top of the range for paragliding (any rating). Switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.

High, remote XC launch (~7,900 ft) off the Mt. Lemmon massif above Oro Valley — advanced pilots only, not a casual ridge-soaring spot. Look for light, single-digit SW-W wind from launch height up through 12,000 ft; NW/northerly flow throws rotor in the canyon just west, so skip it on north winds. After launch, fly straight out through the canyon to Samaniego Ridge on your right, where the reliable lift is. Long, committing glide with few landing options — bring water and survival gear. Long high-clearance/hike-in approach from the Catalina Hwy; get local SAHGA guidance first.
