Ceiling · Paragliding

≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23

Top of the range for paragliding (any rating). Switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.

Buffalo Mountain near Talihina in the Ouachita range, run by Buffalo Mountain Flyers. Several south-facing launches (East Slope, Middle Cliff, West Slope) cover roughly SE through SW. Paragliders want light, smooth air — about 7 mph ideal, 5 mph or less if gusty; hang gliders can take more. Watch for pop-up thunderstorms, fast-building summer evening winds, and rotor behind the road above launch. First flights are guided by a senior pilot, and launches need P2/P3 or H2/H3 depending on which one; Middle Cliff isn't for light wind.
