Wind direction

ESE (112°) → WSW (247°)

The wind must blow from within this arc. Direction is the same for both wings.

Ideal speed

4–12 mph

Ceiling · Paragliding

≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23

Top of the range for paragliding (any rating). Switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.

Morning thermic canyon launch near Whitewater/Grand Junction (~5,400 ft), flying the early cycle on SE-through-SW wind before midday valley flow builds. Switch to the companion afternoon site (opposite N/W aspect, a stronger cliff launch) once the gradient turns NW. Watch for strong midday thermals, overdevelopment, and lee rotor if the wind backs into the north. Light early-morning conditions are the window.
