Wind direction

NE (45°) → SE (135°)

The wind must blow from within this arc. Direction is the same for both wings.

Ideal speed

3–10 mph

Ceiling · Paragliding

≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23

Top of the range for paragliding (any rating). Switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.

Hike-and-fly off the summit of Colorado's highest 14er (14,433 ft) - not a developed club site and no formal rating or oversight. Expect a long alpine hike (6-8 hours round trip) carrying your wing; expert hike-and-fly skills and confident no-wind forward launches required. Fly only in calm, light, early-morning air and be on the ground before Sawatch thermals and afternoon storms build. Thin air degrades inflation and glider performance, so keep wind speeds very low.
