Hager City is a south-facing bluff launch on the Wisconsin side of the Mississippi River, across from Red Wing, MN. ParaglidingEarth lists it as a private site (grass launch, room for a few gliders to lay out) suitable for both paragliding and hang gliding, with thermal/soaring potential. Working octants are SE, S, and SW, with S (180) the strongest. Best as a south wind ridge-soaring/thermal site; the ideal arc (150-210) and marginal edges (120-240) are inferred from the orientation since no club/USHPA guide published explicit wind-speed numbers. Speed ranges (ideal ~8-18 mph, base/gust caps ~22/25 mph) are general estimates typical of a Mississippi-bluff soaring ridge, NOT site-published values. Hazards to expect on Mississippi River bluff sites: lee-side rotor and turbulence when wind backs off the favorable arc, river-valley convergence/venturi effects, and limited bailout LZ options near the river. Private-site access requires local club/landowner permission (likely Hill Country / Compass AirSports / regional Midwest pilot community); confirm permission, current status, and conditions with locals before flying. Treat as intermediate (P3/H3) ridge-soaring terrain. Verify all numbers locally.
