Top of the range for paragliding (any rating) — switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.
Two-launch desert site near Phoenix (AZHPA, RRRG-insured). The main South Launch faces due south at ~2,600 ft and flies in S wind (SSE-SSW, ~150-210), ideal around 8 mph and up to ~15; best window is 10am-4pm in summer. The North Launch faces NW at ~2,300 ft, works NW-NE, and is a hike-in evening option when the south side shuts down. Hazards: unmarked power lines right of the south launch and in 'the bowl', tower guy wires behind launch, year-round dust devils, and lift near the LZ that can float you over the houses — land short. Rating P3/H3 (H2/P2 needs a sponsor); south launch drives up via Central Ave except during Sunday road closures.
