Ideal speed
6–15 mph
Ceiling · Paragliding
≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23
Top of the range for paragliding (any rating) — switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.
A north-facing launch near Fairbanks (~2,400 ft) overlooking a wooded bowl off the Steese Highway. It works on a north flow (roughly NNW to NNE); south winds are leeside with rotor over the back. Mostly light thermal cycles in summer, with the midnight sun extending the evening window. A small local site — check access (private overlook/ski-area land is nearby) and current conditions with Fairbanks pilots first.
