Top of the range for paragliding (any rating). Switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.
AB Mountain is a strenuous alpine ridge launch above Skagway, flown off the S/SW-facing slopes over Taiya Inlet. It works best in light-to-moderate onshore flow from the SE through SW; E and W turn cross to the ridge. Getting up is a hard 2-3 hour hike, with landings at Dyea Flats or in the Skagway valley. Watch for strong, gusty marine winds funneling up the inlet, lee rotor and back-side push on north days, and afternoon overdevelopment. Fly under Skagway airport VFR.
