What we look for at DESERT MOUNTAIN OLD SCHOOL HG/PG LAUNCH

Wind direction

W (270°) → N (350°)

The wind must blow from within this arc. Direction is the same for both wings.

Ideal speed

6–15 mph

Ceiling · Paragliding

≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23

Top of the range for paragliding (any rating) — switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.

High, old-school HG/PG launch (~6,300 ft) on the Rocky Mountain Front near East Glacier / Two Medicine. Faces the west-to-north side. The Front is notorious for strong, gusty chinook west winds and lee-side rotor, so fly only light-to-moderate days and avoid strong synoptic westerlies. On or near Blackfeet Reservation land - confirm access locally before flying.
