Top of the range for paragliding (any rating) — switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.
SW-facing thermal/mountain ridge launch near Mt. Aeneas (the 'Checkerboard'), overlooking the Flathead Valley and Flathead Lake, run by Many Feathers Paragliding School with the Flathead Valley Soaring Association. Works in light SW wind (roughly 200-220, best around 6 mph, max ~8) - a light-wind mountain launch, not a strong-wind ridge site. Watch for venturi and rotor off the eastern shoulder, summit compression, and rotor behind launch; strong wind aloft brings over-the-back danger, and the back side is miles of trees with no out-landings. P3/H3 fly solo; lower ratings need observed flights plus a local intro. Best in morning or evening glass-off.
