Top of the range for paragliding (any rating) — switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.
East-facing cliff launch on Pigeon Mountain in the Crockford-Pigeon Mountain WMA near La Fayette; P3/H4 advanced, USHPA-insured. Flies on east wind - roughly 7 mph+ is needed to ridge-soar, and wind is required to launch off the sheer face. The exit is a ~90-degree rock cliff with jagged rock (watch the outcrop on the right) and close trees below; west/backside winds bring rotor and are unflyable. Several LZs; access via Chamberlain Rd off Hwy 136/193. Instruction must be by USHPA-certified instructors.
