What we look for here
  • Wind directionSSE (160°) → SSW (200°)
  • Ideal speed3–10 mph
  • Upper limits≤ 12 mph base · gusts ≤ 15

High-altitude mountain site (~10,400 ft) requiring RMHPA membership and landowner relationship to fly. Launch aspect SSW-S-SSE; works in a S-through-SW synoptic pattern. Ideal PG wind 3-10 mph (ideal ~5 mph, gust factor 5 mph); HG 3-12 mph (ideal ~8 mph). Marginal/cross at the SE and SW edges; too-early-spring snow in adjacent high country produces very cross downslope winds. P2/H2/M1 rated but flagged "High Altitude" - solid, aggressive launch technique needed and conditions can rapidly escalate to H3/P3+. Major hazards: South Park valley flow ramps up fast causing blowback, wind compression, and serious thunderstorm/overdevelopment risk. Best flown early morning when conditions are mild (and fall); land before midday valley flow builds. LZ at ~9,700 ft on USFS land has undulating/pothole terrain, fast no-wind approaches, cattle/bulls; smallest wing to reach LZ ~12m, min glide 3.0. Remove all wind streamers and respect private-property parking on departure.
