What we look for here
  • Wind directionSE (135°) → S (180°)
  • Ideal speed3–8 mph
  • Upper limits≤ 12 mph base · gusts ≤ 15

South-facing cliff launch (~2,700 ft MSL) run by the South Carolina Hang Gliding Association. Flyable in winds from SE to S not exceeding ~12 mph; club guide favors light-and-variable conditions. This is NOT a ridge-soaring site - pilots launch toward the south and rely on thermals/buoyant air, so best flown when light and variable or with gentle on-shore (S/SSE) flow. HAZARDS: considerable turbulence on SE-to-SW winds above 8 mph; SW forecasts tend to be more westerly (and thus way cross) at the mountain, producing rowdy, turbulent "white-knuckle" air above 8 mph; west winds above 8 mph are turbulent. Treat >8 mph in any cross/SW component as marginal-to-unflyable. ACCESS/RATING: H3 site (USHPA). Visiting H2 allowed only with demonstrated mountain experience and accompanied by an H3 at launch. No paragliding (HG only). Must hold current USHPA membership, sign waivers, carry a working reserve, and be accompanied by a local experienced pilot; new pilots should get a landing-options briefing. LZ at 2126 Highway 11, Landrum, SC 29356 (~800 x 300 ft).
