High-mountain thermal site at a staffed fire lookout in the Trinity Alps (Shasta-Trinity NF), launch ~6960-7000 ft MSL, a full vertical mile above the main LZs near the Trinity River / Hwy 299 (Sky Ranch LZ near Junction City; Weaverville). Multiple launch aspects available - pilot reports confirm you can launch EAST, SOUTH, or WEST off the peak, matching the E/SE/S/SW/W/NW octant hint. Predominantly a thermic mid-day soaring site; pilots launch late-morning (~11:30am) with strong thermals topping 10,000 ft and mid-day lift that can exceed 16,000 ft in summer (supplemental O2 advisable). Best flown on light, well-organized thermal days; explicitly NOT recommended in high wind. ADVANCED site (effectively P4/H4 judgment level) - designated wilderness with no roads or safe bailout LZs below launch, glide-out of at least 5:1 required to reach any LZ, south LZ is closer but out of sight along the river. Demands solid weather understanding, good glide management, and XC/big-air experience. Access via ~10 mi maintained gravel Weaver Bally Rd from Weaverville/Hwy 299; gate near lookout may be locked (short hike) and snow blocks access in winter. Speed/gust numbers are inferred (no published club numbers) - treat conservatively given the committing terrain and altitude.
