Ideal speed

8–18 mph

Ceiling · Paragliding

≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23

Top of the range for paragliding (any rating). Switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.

Coastal ridge/dune soaring site on the Lost Coast near Petrolia, Humboldt County (takeoff 'Penguin', ~830 ft). Works on the onshore NW sea breeze — best wind is straight-in NW, usually midday into afternoon once it fills in. Watch for the breeze overpowering (blowback) and for rotor with any easterly component. No active club site guide; check current conditions with local Humboldt pilots before flying.
