What we look for at Peanut Launch, De Beque

Wind direction

SSW (200°) → WSW (250°)

The wind must blow from within this arc. Direction is the same for both wings.

Ideal speed

5–12 mph

Ceiling · Paragliding

≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23

Top of the range for paragliding (any rating) — switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.

SW/W-facing launch in the De Beque / Book Cliffs western-slope complex (~7,986 ft), near High Lonesome Ranch and Stovepipe. Works best with a SW-to-WSW wind straight up the face. Long takeoff runs in thin air and turbulent, dust-devil-prone midday air - best flown as a smooth evening glass-off in summer (launch ~6pm or later), or any time on calm winter days. Intermediate/advanced high-desert site; confirm access and exact launch orientation with local pilots first.
