Wind direction
SW (225°) → NW (315°)
The wind must blow from within this arc. Direction is the same for both wings.
Ideal speed
5–12 mph
Ceiling · Paragliding
≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23
Top of the range for paragliding (any rating) — switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.
High-alpine roadside launch along the Beartooth Highway (US-212) at nearly 10,000 ft — not an established, documented club site. Extreme density altitude hurts wing performance, and alpine thermals plus venturi through the pass build fast, so fly early-morning or evening smooth air. The highway is only open roughly late May to mid-October. Unverified site — confirm the launch, legality, and conditions with local pilots before flying.
