Hogback near Livingston, MT (Bozeman Airforce / USHPA chapter site). A ~300 ft AGL ridge running roughly E-W in a N-S valley; the NORTH side is the primary soaring/launch side. Club site guide gives explicit numbers: ideal N winds ~340-20 deg (works ~320-40 deg), 0-10 mph base with gusts to 12 mph, gust rate <5 mph/sec, wind/gust differential <10 mph. The south side launch should generally be avoided - no allowed LZ there. NOT a beginner site; P3+ recommended, requires a site intro and familiarity with sharing launch/air with hang gliders. Hazards: extreme and rapidly-changing/strong winds, ridge/terrain rotor, many overhead aerial wires that must be crossed to reach LZs, irrigation canal, rattlesnakes, livestock (close gates) and dogs on private land. Afternoon soaring puts the west sun in your eyes when flying west along the ridge. Parking/launch on private land (access courtesy of landowners and hang-glider community). Note: the traditional LZ (Del Poggio Inc. land south of parking) is now closed - site usable mainly for XC flights landing elsewhere. Charted by FAA as high-frequency glider area (approved 3/2021). Coordinates 45.5269, -110.631, ~5108 ft MSL.
