Bozeman Airforce Paragliding & Hang-gliding Club site guide: S-SW winds (approx 180-225 deg) are ideal at "The M" on the south end of the Bridger Range. Westerly winds (toward 250-255) produce CROSS conditions at the upper launch and are marginal; N/NW winds are discouraged (unflyable). Acceptable wind 0-10 mph base with gusts to 12 mph; max gust rate 5 mph/sec and max speed-gust differential 10 mph. Hazards: cross-wind launches from the top of the M can collapse the wing and drag the pilot across the slope; rotor off trees especially at upper launch in crosswind; large rock field immediately below upper launch; powerlines border the LZ on the west and south; scattered wild rose clumps in the LZ. Morning/evening KATABATIC outflow brings strong easterly wind low over the LZ with turbulent shear — land before morning outflow ends or after evening outflow begins. Two launches: the 3/4 launch (easier in light crosswinds) and the upper launch above the M letter. Minimum P2 / M2 (Hang) rating required unless under instruction; all visiting pilots must review written guidelines and get a local site briefing before flying.
