3–10 mph
Ceiling · Paragliding
≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23
Top of the range for paragliding (any rating). Switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.
Bozeman Airforce club guide: site works in W to SW winds; the Upper Launch (P3 rec.) also takes more southerly (W or S) directions, and the SW/W/NW orientation supports a NW cross-edge. DO NOT launch in N winds. Speed limits per club: 0-10 mph base, gusts to ~12 mph (gust differential <=10 mph). Hazards: barbed-wire fences along the road and around the LZs, sagebrush clumps in unimproved LZs, and nearby target shooters (alert them, carry a whistle). Midday produces strong thermic/cycling conditions and rotor risk depending on wind speed/direction, so morning or evening is generally smoother. Multiple launches (Training Hill, Midway, Upper) for varying skill. Access: Montana State Recreation Permit required (state land), parking for 4-5 cars on Rocky Mtn Rd ~1 mi past Morgan Rd; American flag in NE cemetery serves as a wind indicator. Cell + InReach/sat coverage. Rating: P2/M2 minimum (P3 for Upper); visiting pilots must get a local site briefing first.
