Wind direction
NE (45°) → SE (135°)
The wind must blow from within this arc. Direction is the same for both wings.
Ideal speed
5–15 mph
Ceiling · Paragliding
≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23
Top of the range for paragliding (any rating) — switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.
East-facing thermal/XC launch on the Bighorn front near Sheridan, reached by the steep unpaved Red Grade Road. Works in light easterly upslope flow combined with thermals, best around midday. West winds put it in the lee of the Bighorns — dangerous rotor, avoid any W component. Intermediate-and-up mountain site; check current access and get a local briefing before flying.
