What we look for at Junction Butte
Wind direction
NW (315°) → N (360°)
The wind must blow from within this arc. Direction is the same for both wings.
Ideal speed
6–14 mph
Ceiling · Paragliding
≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23
Top of the range for paragliding (any rating) — switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.
Beginner-through-advanced N/NW-facing grassy launch on private land outside Kremmling (~8,350 ft). CLOSED: behind a locked gate with no legal access (insurance/access), and RMHPA lists no good legal access - do not fly without permission. Works in NW-to-N wind; the nearby Williams/Ute Peak range adds lift in W/NW. High-altitude thermals, Colorado overdevelopment risk, and lee rotor if the wind backs behind the butte.
