What we look for at Tollhouse

Wind direction

SSW (200°) → W (270°)

The wind must blow from within this arc. Direction is the same for both wings.

Ideal speed

3–8 mph

Ceiling · Paragliding

≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23

Top of the range for paragliding (any rating) — switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.

Ridge-top launch (~4,075 ft) above Tollhouse valley, run by CCHPC. Optimal wind is S-to-W: paragliders 3-8 mph (gust to 12), max 12; hang gliders 10-12, max 17. Best in morning and evening glass-off, with midday and XC for experienced pilots only. Regulated P3 site (P2 with an approved sponsor); USHPA membership plus a Tollhouse site fee and a site intro required, and 4WD is needed for the access road. Large grassy LZ (~1,900 ft) bordered by power lines; no mini-wings and no unapproved out-landings.
