Bristol Mountain, NY (Rochester Area Flyers / USHPA chapter site). Slotted ridge/thermal launch facing W. Works SW-WNW (225-290 deg); ideal WSW-W (225-270), marginal 270-290. Light-wind site: ideal ~6 mph, do not fly over 12 mph or gusts above 6 mph. Hazards: strong rotor/turbulence in the narrow valley from airflow over the opposing ski-area ridge; trees on both sides and below the launch slot create rotor; LZ (ski-area parking lot off Rte 64) has trees/rotor on west side and a major road plus power lines on the east. Valley wind tends N/S and the LZ can turn turbulent and switch direction mid-day. Katabatic (down-valley) flow develops late afternoon/early evening in summer. Rating: Intermediate (H3/P3) min; Novice (H2/P2) only with direct supervision by site-current H3/P3+. Current USHPA + RAF chapter membership and a site briefing required; no mini-wings.
