Rochester Area Flyers (RAF) club site near Hammondsport, NY (a.k.a. Mt Washington). Slotted launch with ridge and thermal soaring; trees on both sides of the slot, no power lines, with an abrupt transition from flat to a steep drop-off. Flyable in NNW-N wind (~300-360 deg), ideal NW-NNW (310-325 deg). Ideal speed 8-12 mph; max usable base ~20 mph (winds above 20 mph create turbulence along the ridge), max gust ~10 mph. Hazards: tree-induced turbulence/rotor near tree lines and structures, especially in crosswind; higher wind speeds in the western gully can limit penetration; landing zone not directly visible from launch. Requires good launch/cliff-launch skills. Access/rating: must be current USHPA + RAF chapter member; intermediate H3/P3 minimum (H2/P2 only with direct H3/P3+ supervision); mandatory site briefing for all pilots new to the site (contact RAF/Moritz Wagner). Best time of day not specified.
