Hammondsport (a.k.a. Mt Washington) is a Rochester Area Flyers slotted launch for ridge and thermal soaring, with trees on both sides and an abrupt flat-to-steep drop-off, no power lines. Best in NNW-N wind, ideal NW-NNW at 8-12 mph; above ~20 mph the ridge gets turbulent. Watch tree rotor in crosswind, stronger wind in the western gully, and note the LZ isn't visible from launch. H3/P3 minimum (H2/P2 with supervision), current USHPA + RAF membership and a mandatory site briefing for new pilots.
