What we look for here
  • Wind directionSE (125°) → S (185°)
  • Ideal speed5–12 mph
  • Upper limits≤ 15 mph base · gusts ≤ 20

SSE-facing ridge slot launch, ~650 ft AGL, on the Appalachian Trail (Roseto, PA). Run by the Water Gap Hang Gliding Club under NPS permit. Wind direction (FROM): ideal 125-185 deg, acceptable/marginal 110-200 deg (edges 110-125 and 185-200 are cross/marginal). Speed limits differ by wing: hang gliders min 8 / ideal 12 / max 20 mph (gust delta 10); paragliders min 5 / ideal 10 / max 15 mph (gust delta 5). Reported speed range here blends both, capped at the conservative PG max of 15 mph and ~20 mph max gust. HAZARDS: shallow-to-moderate slope slot launch prone to up-slope and crosswind tree rotors; slope has briars, poison ivy, and copperhead/black/rattlesnake dens; bear habitat. ACCESS/RATING: Advanced and experienced Intermediate pilots only (H4/P4 with monitor signoff, or H3/P3 with same wing-type monitor signoff); FSL skills required. Site Safety Monitor must be present. Max 2 flights/day, max 25 pilots on site, ~1/4 mile hike-in, land only in designated LZs. Note: periodically closed to flying until LZ fields are harvested.
