Wind direction
NE (45°) → SE (135°)
The wind must blow from within this arc. Direction is the same for both wings.
Ideal speed
3–10 mph
Ceiling · Paragliding
≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23
Top of the range for paragliding (any rating) — switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.
Boulder's Wonderland Lake site (RMHPA) — four east-facing launches that fly best in east wind, with NE–SE all workable and south sometimes okay. Weak morning lift builds to strong midday thermals (advanced only mid-day), then a gentler evening cycle as shade comes in. North wind is dangerous — rotor can shut the site down — and a westerly shift risks going over the back into the Rockies' lee. P2/H2 minimum with a high-altitude endorsement (launch ~6,250 ft).
