What we look for here

  • Ideal speed3–10 mph
  • Upper limits≤ 15 mph base · gusts ≤ 20

Boulder / Wonderland Lake (RMHPA chapter). Four east-facing launches (Upper, Halfway Bench, Three-Quarter, South). Ideal wind FROM NE-SE (~45-135 deg); club guide says East best, South can work, NNE-SSE reasonable (marginal ~22-157). South Wonderland launch works best E-NE. Ideal speed ~3-10 mph, max usable 15 mph, gust factor limit ~5 mph. Thermic site: weak lift AM, strong midday. Thermals start ~10:30-12:30; midday is strong (advanced only, H3/P3/M2 + TUR rec). Gentler buoyant evening cycle as shade comes in ~3-4pm. HAZARDS: North winds dangerous - rotor can shut down site, especially North Launch; a tree on Upper launch causes rotor in NNE. Westerly shift risk = going over the back into the lee of the Rockies (the whole range sits to the west). High winds aloft turbulent over Rockies; keep winds <17 mph at 10k-15k ft. RATING/ACCESS: P2/H2/M1 min with High Altitude endorsement (elev 6250 ft); P1/H1 supervised. Midday needs P3/H3/M2+ with TUR skill.
