What we look for at Rainbow Valley

Wind direction

NW (320°) → NE (40°)

The wind must blow from within this arc. Direction is the same for both wings.

Ideal speed

7–15 mph

Ceiling · Paragliding

≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23

Top of the range for paragliding (any rating). Switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.

Obscure low desert relief feature (~980 ft) in the flat Rainbow Valley basin southwest of Goodyear/Buckeye — not the 7,800 ft Bullard Peak elsewhere in Arizona. North-facing per the map data, but no club guide confirms a wind window and the numbers are unverified. Low relief means a narrow soarable band and easy blow-back. Best early morning or evening glass-off; verify access and rating with AZHPA before flying.
