Trade-wind ridge-soaring site (Kahana State Park, windward Oahu) managed by the Hawaii Paragliding Association (USHPA chapter). Works on the prevailing E-NE trades. PRIME on straight E winds (~90 deg): the entire E face of the Kahana ridge generates lift. On NE days (~45-60), only the FRONT of the ridge works and the E face becomes a venturi of strong sinking wind, plus the E launch ridge sits in the wind shadow/rotor of the north ridge - on NE days launch the NORTH launch instead of the east launch. Major hazard: on E days a venturi forms around the NORTH side of the ridge when you are low; pilots have been sucked around the corner unable to penetrate back and forced to land in pasture LZs - stay high and watch the north end. Access: HPA membership required (free) and the site is an officially permitted/insured USHPA chapter site; intermediate/P2+ recommended given venturi and rotor traps. One generic tour source lists 180-280 deg / 5-12 mph but that conflicts with the windward NE/E orientation and club guide, so the E-NE arc from the club guide is weighted instead.
