The wind must blow from within this arc. Direction is the same for both wings.
Ideal speed
6–14 mph
Ceiling · Paragliding
≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23
Top of the range for paragliding (any rating) — switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.
South-facing high-desert launch above Lake Isabella reservoir (~3,380 ft) in the Kern River valley; used as a paragliding/speed-flying area (SpeedFly Sports operates here). Works on a SE-S-SW wind. Strong midday thermals and lake/valley convergence build fast in the afternoon with dust devils — fly the morning or late-afternoon glass-off. Strong E or W wind puts adjacent ridges into rotor. No published club site guide; confirm current rules and access locally before flying.
