What we look for here
  • Wind directionESE (112°) → SSE (168°)
  • Ideal speed5–15 mph
  • Upper limits≤ 18 mph base · gusts ≤ 22

Desert thermal/XC site ~16 mi SW of Ridgecrest CA in the El Paso Mountains; slope faces SSE. ParaglidingEarth orientation flags: SE = primary (best), S = secondary; so ideal is an SSE band centered ~140 deg (SE through S). Marginal/cross edges run from roughly E (90) to SSW (~200) before launch goes cross/lee. Both PG and HG capable. ACCESS: 4WD required to reach launch. HAZARDS: strong desert thermals and overdevelopment of wind - "could be too windy for PG during summer," so flyable PG windows are best earlier in the day before midday thermal cycle builds; late spring/summer afternoons frequently blow out. AIRSPACE: must stay clear of restricted areas R-2505 and R-2506 (China Lake NAWS). XC options: NE toward Trona, or north toward the Owens Valley. Wind-speed numbers are inferred (not published on the site guide) - treat 5-15 mph as a typical comfortable PG range with ~18 mph base / ~22 mph gust as a rough usable ceiling; verify on site. Elevation listed ~4,639-4,760 ft MSL.
