Wellfleet / White Crest Beach is a coastal dune ridge-soaring site (the original NE US HG/PG site). NEPHC club guide gives explicit numbers: ideal wind FROM 070-090 deg (ENE, straight into the dunes), acceptable 050-110 deg. For a standard paraglider: min 8 mph, ideal 10 mph, max 15 mph (do NOT launch a standard PG above 15 mph), gusts no more than +3 mph (~18 mph gust ceiling). Mini-wing pilots fly stronger (ideal 18, max ~24 mph); hang gliders ideal 15, max 20-25 mph. On soarable days you can ridge-soar lighthouse-to-lighthouse along ~20 mi of coast; a sea-breeze/convergence lift band can form. HAZARDS: rotor and turbulence behind the ridge, tree limbs near launch, risk of being blown back over the top, narrow beach with open Atlantic (water landing is real peril - steep drop-off and riptide), powerlines at rear of parking. Speed-bar must be connected when ridge-soaring. ACCESS: seasonal - Town of Wellfleet permits flying only Oct 2 through Apr 14. Rating: H3/P3, or H2/P2 with a mentor.
