Wind direction
NNW (340°) → N (10°)
The wind must blow from within this arc. Direction is the same for both wings.
Ideal speed

Ceiling · Paragliding

Top of the range for paragliding (any rating) — switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.
Alpine launch on the east/NE-facing 'Profile' ski run at ~4,080 ft in Franconia Notch, normally reached by the Cannon tram. Ideal wind is N–NE (340–010), light around 10 mph, max ~15 with gusts to 20; strictly P3 mountain-qualified pilots. Hazards include the chairlift and tram cables beside launch, tree-induced crosswind turbulence on the ~100 ft wide slope, fast-changing alpine conditions, and building anabatic valley wind through the day (fly earlier). Both current USHPA and NEPHC membership are mandatory and checked. Note: the aerial tram was retired in October 2025 and is not running for the 2025/2026 season while a replacement is built, so tram access to launch is suspended — confirm status with NEPHC before planning a trip.
