What we look for here
  • Wind directionNNW (340°) → N (10°)
  • Ideal speed5–10 mph
  • Upper limits≤ 15 mph base · gusts ≤ 20

East/NE-facing alpine launch on the "Profile" ski run at ~4080 ft MSL, accessed by the Cannon tram in Franconia Notch, NH. NEPHC club guide gives explicit numbers: ideal wind N-NE 340-010 deg, acceptable 330-020 deg; ideal speed ~10 mph, max base 15 mph for standard gliders (mini wings at pilot discretion), max gusting +5 mph over base (~20 mph). HAZARDS: chairlift cables directly to the right of launch (maintain clearance); crosswind turbulence from trees flanking the ~100 ft wide launch; tram-line cables requiring large clearance; high alpine elevation (>4000 ft MSL) where conditions change rapidly and valley/anabatic winds build through the day, so morning/earlier flights generally safer. AIRSPACE: Yankee MOA (military traffic) plus glider tow and GA from nearby Franconia airport. ACCESS: strictly P3 mountain-qualified pilots with alpine-conditions knowledge; both current USHPA AND NEPHC membership mandatory (USHPA alone is not accepted); tram operators check membership screenshot + photo ID; online tram reservation and base-lodge registration required. SEASON: off ski-season only, tram operating ~late May (28th) onward after snow is gone. For 2025 season only paragliders and mini wings allowed (no hang gliders).
