P4 site (P3 requires an Observer); one of the most technically challenging cliff launches in the US, on private land flyable only by NEPHC members adhering to USHPA/FAA Part 103 rules. Two launches: primary WNW (ideal 290-310, OK 270-330) and alternate WSW (ideal 220-240, OK 215-245); ideal arc given is the main WNW launch, marginal arc spans both usable launches. Wind speed (PG): min 6-8 mph, ideal ~10 mph, max 15 mph for standard gliders (mini wings at pilot discretion), max gusting +5 over base (~20 mph). HG runs higher: ideal ~15, max ~20 mph. Launch is small and rocky (size of a pitcher's mound), confined by trees on three sides, with a very steep cliff face and no forward launches possible. Rotor frequently makes launching very challenging; new wings need extensive ground handling first. Hazards: TV/microwave towers south of launch, power lines in LZ (never try to clear them), restricted airspace (Westover AFB, Barnes Airport) with occasional military traffic. Strong thermal site (can climb to ~7000 ft on a good day) due to bare basalt sun-facing cliffs. Monitor winds aloft (3000-6000 ft); watch for katabatic/down winds at day's end; avoid flying too far east (tree LZ risk). Flyable year-round; tarps removed end of November. Parking at Log Cabin Restaurant, 500 East Hampton Rd, Holyoke MA, then hike up.
