Wind direction

The wind must blow from within this arc. Direction is the same for both wings.
Ideal speed
8–12 mph
Ceiling · Paragliding
≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23
Top of the range for paragliding (any rating) — switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.
Technically demanding P4 cliff launch (P3 only with an Observer) on private land, flyable only by NEPHC members. The small, rocky launch sits atop a steep basalt cliff and works in WNW wind, with a WSW alternate; rotor makes it tricky, so bring solid ground-handling. Bare sun-facing rock makes it a strong thermal site — climbs of several thousand feet on good days. Watch the towers south of launch, power lines in the LZ, and nearby restricted airspace (Westover/Barnes). Park at the Log Cabin Restaurant and hike up.
