What we look for at Lookout Mountain

Wind direction

WNW (292°) → NNE (22°)

The wind must blow from within this arc. Direction is the same for both wings.

Ideal speed

6–10 mph

Ceiling · Paragliding

≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23

Top of the range for paragliding (any rating) — switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.

Remote butte in the Moffat County wild-horse country of NW Colorado, ~50 mi from Maybell; high-clearance vehicle needed. Launch anywhere along the ridge, with the grassy area near the towers preferred. Faces N and NW (strongest), also NE and W; winter/spring winds run N through W. Not a club-managed site and no published speed limits - treat conditions conservatively.
