Squaw Butte / Sehewoki'i Newenee'an Katete is a ~8-mile-long, roughly N-S ridge ~10 mi NE of Emmett (between Sweet and Ola), with a steep east front rising from ~2500 ft to ~5700 ft and gentler west slopes. It is a bidirectional, primarily thermic site. The west-facing slopes (ideal arc ~250-290, WSW-W-WNW) are the most commonly soarable face; the NE/E side has a separate launch used on east-flow days (roughly 45-110 deg). Forecast models for this area frequently disagree (about half predict east flow, half west flow), so check live winds before committing to a side. Straight N (~315-45) and straight S flow do not work (parallel to the ridge / leeside risk). No published club site guide with explicit numbers was found, so speeds are inferred general PG values: ideal ~7-15 mph, base max ~18 mph, gusts to ~22 mph; reduce in strong thermal conditions. Hazards: leeside rotor whenever wind opposes the chosen face, loose gravel and a rocky/exposed summit, strong midday thermals and afternoon valley wind, zero shade. Best windows are mid-morning to early afternoon thermal cycles or smooth ridge-soaring flow; avoid overdeveloped/late-day overpowered conditions. Horseshoe Bend Flight Park pilots fly XC out to Squaw Butte (~13 mi each way), so it is an established XC objective. Likely P3/intermediate-level mountain/XC site; verify USHPA rating, access road status, and local protocol with Idaho Paragliding / Boise-area pilots. Elevation ~5679 ft MSL.
