8th Street is a confirmed mountain/XC paragliding site in the foothills north of Boise, ID (~5919 ft), documented in the Idaho Paragliding club site guide and Nick Wilder's XC launch database. Access: drive north up 8th Street out of Boise; at the top where the road Ts, turn right; short hike from parking to launch. LZ is on the ridge just past the last set of power lines (no wind sock present). It is primarily a thermal/cross-country site rather than a sustained ridge-soaring site (peak XC season June/Aug/Sep; longest recorded flight 73 km on 2023-08-28). Key local tip: gain enough altitude to cross the valley and do not loiter, or you will end up hiking out. No source published explicit wind-direction degrees, speed ranges, or gust limits. Direction arc (ideal W~270 to NW~315, marginal SW~240 to NNW~340) is INFERRED from the paraglidingEarth orientation hint (W, NW octants); speed/gust values are inferred general guidance for an inland Idaho mountain thermal site and should be treated as rough. Verify locally with the Idaho Paragliding club (idahoparagliding.org), which lists site mentors/contacts, before flying. As a high-desert thermal site, expect strong midday thermic cycles, possible over-development and lee-side rotor if wind backs to the E/SE, and best conditions on mornings or thermic-but-not-overdeveloped afternoons.
