Top of the range for paragliding (any rating). Switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.
Lookout Mountain Flight Park's 65 ft student hill in the valley at the base of Cloudland Canyon. Launches in every direction except west; instructors move students around the hill as the wind swirls off the surrounding ridges. First-day students stay down above 5-6 mph; 6-7 mph (streamers flying straight back) is the upper limit. Up to 45 deg of crosswind is OK in 0-5 mph, narrowing to 15-20 deg at 6-7 mph. Lessons run from 7:30 AM and usually wrap by 11 AM on sunny days before thermals; evenings before sunset also work. Not a soaring site.
