The wind must blow from within this arc. Direction is the same for both wings.
Ideal speed
5–12 mph
Ceiling · Paragliding
≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23
Top of the range for paragliding (any rating). Switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.
High-desert knife-edge ridge near Barstow/Lucerne Valley (better known for sport climbing). Flyable off more than one face, mainly the E/SE side; a launch venturi makes real wind noticeably stronger than forecast, so most pilots don't fly if the forecast is over about 7 mph. N cross is difficult and northerly components are a no-go. Strong desert thermals, dust devils, and rough air midday - fly morning or evening. Remote and unimproved; advanced desert judgment recommended.
