  • Ideal speed3–12 mph
  • Upper limits≤ 15 mph base · gusts ≤ 18

East-facing MORNING-ONLY site. UHGPGA site guide states the launch "favors an east or north wind"; strong NE winds can produce soarable ridge lift. CRITICAL HAZARD: winds shifting to the WEST (the orientation hint's W/SW/NW octants) produce ROTOR and DOWNFLOW on this east-facing launch - do NOT launch with a tailwind. The paraglidingEarth octant hint (E,SE,SW,W,NW) is misleading/wrong for safe flying here; trust the club guide: ideal is roughly NE-E-SE (centered due east). By midday expect strong cyclic thermic turbulence, so fly early. Prominent Utah Lake "lake wind" effects. Launch ~6,457-6,683 ft MSL; Big Pasture LZ is a 22-acre hayfield (~4,550 ft) with 50-ft wires/power lines along the west and south perimeters. Poor footing on rocky/unimproved launch. USHPA P2/H2 rating required (unless under direct instructor supervision). Access via severely washboarded two-track dirt road, high-clearance 4WD strongly recommended; may be impassable winter through mid-spring. No explicit speed limits published; ranges shown are typical-morning-thermal estimates, not club-specified.
