West-facing high-altitude mountain-thermal launch above the Provo "Y" monument (BYU property). UHGPGA club guide gives flyable wind direction NW-SW (~225-315 deg, wind FROM), ideal 6-8 mph, max base 12 mph; works on a west wind of ~10 mph for soaring with a thermal trigger. Marginal/edge arc widened slightly to ~200-340 (SSW to NNW). Note: the club guide's listed "max gust 4 mph" is almost certainly a max gust-spread/cycle value, not an absolute gust cap, so maxGust here is estimated (~15 mph) and should be treated cautiously. Hazards: significant midday thermic turbulence (challenging high-altitude site), and TWO sets of cross-country transmission wires/towers between launch and the Kiwanis Park LZ. Best conditions are late afternoons (smoother). Steep grassy switchbacked launch slope. Access: hike-and-fly only, ~1-mile steep switchbacked trail from public lot, no vehicles on the Y Trail, year-round. Rating: USHPA P3 required (or under direct instructor/observer supervision), plus USHPA + UHGPGA membership; in-person site briefing from a local pilot strongly recommended. LZ: Kiwanis Park (need ~4.2:1 glide); Bigfoot LZ permanently closed.
