Wind direction
SSE (150°) → SSW (210°)
The wind must blow from within this arc. Direction is the same for both wings.
Ideal speed
3–10 mph
Ceiling · Paragliding
≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23
Top of the range for paragliding (any rating) — switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.
South-facing thermal bowl in the Santa Barbara front range, one launch west of Skyport - higher (3,400 ft) and easier to launch than Skyport but deep in the terrain, with the glide out to the small, rocky Parma LZ. Same light south sea-breeze/thermal cycle as the other SB front-range launches: a 5-10 mph north forecast in town often still lets a south cycle set up, and the season is late fall to early spring. P3/H3 minimum, arrange a local-guide site intro, and the SBSA airspace window must be opened before flying.
