Wind direction
SSE (150°) → SSW (210°)
The wind must blow from within this arc. Direction is the same for both wings.
Ideal speed
3–10 mph
Ceiling · Paragliding
≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23
Top of the range for paragliding (any rating) — switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.
Eastmost of the Santa Barbara front-range launches, south-facing and thermic in light wind - small, and the glide-out is tricky. It's higher and easier than EJ Bowl but sits deep in the terrain. Local rule of thumb: a 5-10 mph north forecast in town usually lets a south cycle set up on launch. P3/H3 minimum with a 2m radio, reserve and helmet, and you must open the SBSA airspace window (call TRACON) before flying.
