Top of the range for paragliding (any rating) — switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.
CPC-managed E-SE cliff soaring site above the Columbia at the John Day Dam (off SR-14, launch ~1,200 ft, gated USHPA-members-only access). Club guide: ideal 80-160 at 5-8 kt for PG (H2/M2 want 5-10 kt), acceptable 60-180; max 15 kt PG / 20 kt HG, and gusts no more than 5 kt over base at ANY rating - several accidents and one fatality here from launching in excessive wind, so respect the caps. Power lines near launch-right and the Cow Pasture LZ; windmills and the weather mast need ample clearance. Big spring-summer XC site (150+ km flights). P2/H2/M2 minimum with USHPA membership and a site orientation.
